Years 3 and 4 have really enjoyed their topic work on Wincanton and the world beyond. As part of this work, we spent an enjoyable week exploring environmental issues such as recycling, conservation of water and our effect on the environment. In Art we explored patterns through different mediums including clay. The children were fascinated by the stories and practices linked to the Hindu faith.
Swimming of course has finished for Mrs. Prices’ class.
It is now the turn of the other two classes. Please ensure your child brings their swimming kit on a Friday as we will not be contacting parents if your child forgets. In the other P.E. sessions with Mr Croucher, the children will be concentrating on athletics and team games. For Science this half term we will be learning about our bodies, focussing on skeletons
In the second half term we will be looking at Habitats, combining Science, Literacy and Art. As part of this topic the children will be visiting the Kingcombe Centre to study the natural environment. We will be showing the children how to make packaging for a game in Design Technology, and Art moves us onto sculpture where the children will be creating imaginative minibeasts
Literacy this term is based on persuasive writing and stories that raise issues or dilemmas. The Literacy targets the children have been given are based on improving sentences by looking at punctuation and sentence construction. Some of the homework will help to support them achieve these targets.
As an essential part of Mathematics we will be asking you to help your child continue to learn their times tables. For the Yr 3s , the 2,3, 4, 5,6 and 10 multiplication tables and for the Yr 4’s their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 multiplication tables. It is important that they know them by heart not just as a progression of numbers.
A big thank you to all those parents who came to parents evening last term. We are always pleased to meet you and discuss your child. Another thank you for supporting us in hearing your child read throughout this year. It has made a tremendous difference.
Since we are now in the summer term we will all be hoping for good weather. Please make sure that your child brings a hat on sunny days. We hope this term will prove to be stimulating and successful for all.
