Summer Term 2008
Year R 1 and 2
Welcome to the final curriculum newsletter this year. Lots will be happening this term so read on…….
This half term
Our cross curricular topic is Plants and Animals in our Environment.
Our focus in literacy is non fiction information, thinking specifically
about pets. Your child will have a literacy target based around
writing a sentence and if you would like to know more information about
this, please pop in and talk to your child’s teacher.
With the warmer weather coming we hope to maximise the use of our local area and continue ‘welly walks’ for the reception children every Wednesday afternoon. In addition to this we will be holding four Parent and Children Together sessions for the reception children which will involve literacy and numeracy activities. These will commence on Tuesday, 29th April at 2.50 pm in your child’s class.
We will shortly be sending home details of an art competition for the children to enter. It will involve the children designing their ideal pet.

Next half term
The cross curricular topic for next half term will be the Seaside and Healthy Eating.
We hope to organize a trip to the seaside for the year 1 and 2 children and a trip to Warminster Park for the Reception children. Details will follow nearer the time.SCITT Student
We will be welcoming Katy Sams a SCITT teaching student on her final teaching practice to Miss Golton’s class. She will work with the class every day starting on Monday 2nd June until Friday 4th July. We are very pleased about this arrangement as Miss Sams has very successfully worked in another year group in our school this year.
Transition to year 3
In order to make the transition into year 3 as smooth as possible the children will be given the opportunity to visit each year 3/4 class for a story time during the month of July.

Infant Fun Morning

The theme is teddy bears and your child will need to bring a teddy bear to school on this day. They will take part in various activities organized and run by the year 6 children. If the weather allows, the proposed date is Tuesday 8th July. Further details will follow nearer the time.
Sponsored Walk
In order to raise money to purchase new book bags for the children who will be starting school in September, we are arranging a sponsored walk for the current reception children. This is an opportunity for the children to take part in a fundraising event that benefits other children.
Warm Weather (hopefully!)When the weather warms up we do advise all children to bring a named hat to school. These can be kept in their drawers or book bags. We would also ask you to ensure that the children come to school wearing sun cream if you feel that this is appropriate.
We hope your children have a fun and stimulating term and please feel free to pop in if you have any questions.
