ICT Suite
David Heath visited the school to officially open our ICT Suite last Friday. Thank you to the school council who waited patiently for his arrival and who chatted with Mr Heath so confidently.
Photographs of the event can be found in this week’s Western Gazette.
Christmas Cards
Thank you to everyone who purchased the lovely cards the children made
in the run up to Christmas last year. Lots of you purchased these
fantastic cards – thank you for your support. Those children who sold
both sets of cards received their gift last Friday, from the company
that produced the cards, – we hope they enjoyed assembling the “drawing
crab”. The school received £227 in commission which will go towards
subsidising year 6 camp.
Christmas Carol Service
We hope you all enjoyed this service – the children worked very hard practising. The retiring collection raised £128.00. With this money we have purchased a family food basket and places for five school children for our chosen charity, Save the Children.
Thank you for support with these events.
Activemark 2007
Wincanton Primary School has been awarded Activemark for 2007. This is for the delivery of the national PE, School Sport and Club Links strategy. It is open to all schools that are part of a school sport partnership. Schools received this mark if 90% or more of pupils do at least 2 hours of high quality PE and school sport a week.
Corridor Safety
Please can we ask that year 1 and 2 parents allow their children to come into school on their own, leaving your child at the front door. Not only will this encourage their independence it will reduce congestion in the corridor, which is a health and safety issue.
Year 5/6 Maths Evening
Thank you to everyone who attended this meeting. We hope you found it helpful. We were highly embarrassed by the errors contained in some of the published materials we used on the evening. As Mrs Martin reported, these materials were passed to us by our local authority. We have complained to them in the strongest terms about the errors in their materials. However we did have a responsibility to check them thoroughly and we apologise that the errors were not picked up by us.
Assessments
During the week of January 28th class teachers may be undertaking assessments of your children to measure their progress and to inform their planning. These will also inform discussions we have with you on parents evening which will take place on 12th and 13th February.
